Echo Lake: Cushman, Charles W., 1896-1972

Mapping the Cushman Photograph Collection Over Time

Hello and welcome to my Hacking the Humanities Midterm! Click the About the Map tab to learn more about this project! The Map below shows a small sample of the locations and times that Charles Cushman took photographs in the 60s. Click on a symbol on the map to learn more about the photograph and click view to see the photograph. This collection looks specifically at a small selection of aquatic photos that Cushman took.

This map was created by sorting through a CSV file that included many of Charles Cushman’s photographs and using the location data to map the photographs in space and the archive dates to show the timeframe of these photographs. The goal of this project was to represent how art is taken and changes over time and space, even by one artist. While this only used a small data set, it shows the beginnings of how this could be used to look at artist trends and shifts.
